"We are seduced by the delicious sheen of dripping skin, the shining textures of drenched hair and clothing. But although registered on the surfaces of the body - skin, clothing and hair - for von Zwehl, rain has also somehow the potential to soak deeper, to effect a kind of psychological penetration, a shift of temper, of mood. For her it seems apt that in cinema the advent of rain often signals a critical moment or turning point, and it is a similar moment in photographic terms that she and her camera patiently await."
- Susan Butler, extract from the essay 'Rain' from Issue 39 of Portfolio: Contemporary Photography in Britain
