"The girls [in this series 'Sospiri'] were photographed lying on a wooden floor, always in the same posture and from the same angle. The portraits not only share their format, but also the clothing – all of them are wearing the traditional “dirndl” dress - yet they are distinctive, with the identical setting causing the differences of physiognomy to appear all the more clearly, underscoring the individuality of the children of roughly the same age. Inspired by the work of Gerhard Richter, Bettina von Zwehl raises the question of seeing oneself in others and others in oneself."
